Good News!!!

I do feel better than last week. It only ended up being a 24 hour type of a bug and then I felt fine. My companion is sick now though, so cross your fingers that I don’t get it!!! I really wish there were exceptions to being around each other 24/7 in situations like this!!!

So it’s transfer week and………….drum roll please…………..I’m staying here in Lethbridge for at least another transfer! I’m so happy!!!!!!!! We’ve got such great things going on right now and I’m excited for the future!!!………by the way, I don’t wear that brown coat around, so don’t worry mom:)

I’m thinking that we’ll skype at about 10 in the morning on Christmas…but I’ll message you if it’s any different!!! Does that time work for you guys?

So……..for the area……it’s going great!!! Tara…(that guy’s girlfriend) is on date for the 9th of February!!!! We had dinner and a lesson with her at a member’s home and the whole experience was unreal. First of all…the member’s home that we ate at was absolutely gorgeous!! It was very big and open and had a stair case in the center that was the focal point of the house and it spiraled downward like it was beauty and the beast or something! We had a great roast beef dinner and then had a lesson on the plan of salvation afterwards…It was probably the best lesson I’ve had on the mission so far. The members had great input and totally helped with the lesson (which sometimes isn’t always the case….bless their hearts) and Tara was very understanding and is very sincere and the perfect type of investigator! She agreed to baptism as we talked about it in what we should do to find happiness in this life and how to return to our Heavenly Father. It was all very positive and there were no negative reactions to anything we taught. And why would there be!! The gospel (particularly the plan of salvation) is such a beautiful and happy knowledge that we have in these Latter Days!!! The only reason it is accepted negatively is usually because people don’t have enough faith in this beautiful plan that our Heavenly Father has for us and that Jesus Christ is so central to and so they don’t want to make the changes that bring them true happiness in this life. I always pray that I can be the most effective teacher for these people in Canada so that they can come to an understanding for themselves of the truthfulness of our message. It truly is a great time to be a missionary! We also taught Tara yesterday in greater detail about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and she completely agreed with everything and is excited that she knows HOW to repent now!

We also picked up a new investigator this week named…Colby!! He is 20 and has a less active girlfriend that he has a 9 month old baby with. He has been being “poached” (taught by missionaries that aren’t in his area) that last couple of months but was finally passed off to us because he lives in our area! He and his girlfriend want to get married at the beginning of the year and he wants to be baptized. We’re having some struggles with him having been taught and assimilated to a ward that he can’t be baptized in by the other elders but I think we can get over that. He can only text and we haven’t been able to get a hold of him since our lesson with him….but I think it’ll work out!!!

One of our ward Christmas parties was this week and it was unreal!! It was really well put together and very spiritual and cute and happy! The primary kids acted out the nativity scene and there was a cool slide show of some activities the ward had done that year set to Christmas music and a really good song set to the bible videos of Christ that are on lds.org. It really is amazing how much I feel a part of these wards that I serve in and how much love I have for the families within them. Some of the kids in these wards are so dang cute and make me smile when I see them and the funny things they do! It makes me miss Aspyn so much!! But I’m so excited to see her on Skype!

Bowl week!!! I’ve been thinking about it a tiny bit this week because I miss the bowl gifts!haha How is the camcorder holding up by the way? I’d imagine that you’re loving it for filming Jessie’s games mom:) I hope that Aspyn doesn’t cry too much and that Austen and Kels have fun!

I was also really impressed with the web page for the business!! It looks so official!! It made me want some of our meat soooo bad!!! I really miss our meat….Everyone brags about “Alberta Beef” up here…..but it seriously doesn’t even compare to our meat. Part of it has been that people don’t know how to cook steak a lot of the time and the biggest part is just that the texture and taste doesn’t even come close to ours. So I think you should be confident in knowing that no one in Canada has provided a better quality of meat yet:) but I really don’t think anyone will.

I love you all and am excited for Christmas! Let me know if that time doesn’t work! Otherwise I’ll plan on seeing you then!

Hi mom!

So I don’t know why but I picked up a really random stomach bug this morning and threw up and now it has me feeling like crap while writing to you….but I will survive!

The work went well this week. We did pick up that new investigator that I told you about and the lesson went alright…you’ll have to ask Trav about how it went because I told him in his email.

We taught the girlfriend of the other less active that we’ve found and it went REALLY well. She is super sincere and going into things the right way. She also came to church even though she thought she wasn’t going to because she needed to study for finals. I promised her that she would do better on her finals if she came to at least the sacrament and so she did and loved it! We should teach her again this week and it’ll be good for her boyfriend to get back and attend the lessons on the 26th. Hopefully I’m still in this area then because we have transfers on the 19th…

It’s pretty cold here but nothing too unbearable. I feel like my tolerance for it builds up each week and I should probably wear my coat more often.

That’s good that Jess is doing better in her job and that Connor is finding joy in basketball. It’s a funny coincidence that I don’t feel well at the time of you mentioning how I didn’t feel well last year when you built gingerbread houses. I’m sure that you guys will have a great time!

I hope you have a great week!

Love Colb

My dearest family,

Where do I begin…..I’m glad you got my package! It was packed with love and a lot of thought as to how much of each type of candy that I should include!haha If you guys want any more of anything then just let me know and I’ll make sure to get another package sent down there. There’s usually quite a few people that we can find that make the trip between the two places. So just let me know if you guys are craving some more of anything!

Also….this was a really good week for missionary work! We had a mission tour on Friday and Elder Evans of the 70 came and talked to us. He was a really good speaker and gave a lot of good counsel on how to do missionary work and increase our finding efforts. I really enjoyed all of his advice to us and it gave me a lot of revelation of ways to improve in my own life and how to improve our area!

So we did meet with that couple that I talked about and it went really well! They really enjoyed the lesson in church on eternal marriage and she loves the temples. She’s been to temple square and to the Calgary open house with her boyfriend. We got to know them better and he talked about his mission a lot with us. We offered for her to start taking the lessons towards the end of it all and she agreed and her boyfriend has headed out of town to work in Houston for a month. We are trying to have a lesson with her on Saturday and hopefully it happens! She’s finishing up finals right now so things are kind of hecktic in that aspect of her life but I’m excited to start teaching her!

We also were told to stop by a man that would like for his girlfriend to start taking the lessons. He’s less active and has a smoking problem. He was on the doorstep smoking when we pulled up and we were a little surprised/unsure if we were at the right house. Then we got out of the car and he invited us in and he is a very sincere and nice man. He wants to stop his smoking habit and become worthy to take the sacrament again and get the higher priesthood and then end up in the temple with this girl one day. We didn’t meet her that night because she was sleeping but he says that she’s interested and we will meet with them on Tuesday! I’m excited to help him turn his life around and also to teach his girlfriend. They’re supposed to be getting married in Mexico right after the new year, so that’s exciting as well! He opened up a lot though and really wants to quit smoking and get back in shape. We chatted for a while and then he asked if I would give him a blessing. It was a great experience and was definitely one of those blessings where I didn’t even have to think about what I was saying but the words were coming out and it was very powerful.

But yeah, life is good!

I don’t have my camera on me right now but hopefully it’s alright if I send some pictures next week. I hope it won’t be too late!

I’m so happy to hear that the family is doing well!

Trav emailed me the details on his situation and I’m on your side of things mom:) (obviously) haha And you say he doesn’t want to bring her around because he’s afraid you’ll be mean to her….haha That’s so interesting…..
I’m excited to see how Aust likes this new job and just to see everyone on Christmas over Skype!

I hope that Conman can enjoy basketball this year. I do know that it’s hard when your put in certain circumstances…but just play hard and enjoy it for what it’s worth I guess!

Jessie Jessie Jessie…the drama of a teenage girl has got to be one of the most predictable and frustrating things to overcome in this life. BUT it sounds like Jess has got her head on straight and knows what she wants from life. That’s very comforting to hear. I’m sure she’ll make it out of highschool and these “troubles” just fine. She’s a very smart girl!

I hope that you and dad are still doing okay. It sounds like you are but I can’t emphasize enough that I really do love and am thankful for you two. I pray daily that you and the family will be safe and can feel my love for you and also the Savior’s.

Elder J
